March 31, 2022 - Loop via Powderface Trail, Prairie Link, Prairie Creek Trail - Elbow, Kananaskis

Having spent the entire last set of days off working on a bathroom renovation, we desperately needed to get back out on the trails early this set off to reset.  In addition, we both have new boots to break in before we head off to Scotland next month for an attempted TGOC crossing (second for me, third for Amanda).

We headed down to the winter gate at Elbow Falls and walked a short distance along the bare road to the trail head.

We quickly made the decision to put on our micro-spikes as the trail looked icy/snowy, and later a little muddy.  The snowy parts were a little reminiscent of our trip along the Oregon coast, with an extra 25% effort required each step in order to move forward.  Despite that, we kept a decent pace and enjoyed some good preparation and strategy discussions for the upcoming trip.

By the end of the hike we both felt a couple of hot spots on our feet which will need to be sorted out before we leave for our trip.  Other than that, we were quite happy with our boots, and with being able to get out for a nice peaceful hike!  I would recommend the trail as a lightly used, low level outing - good for getting back into the swing of things!
